Default 06 Sportsman 500ho

It starts and runs just fine but when I start to go it will sputters and then dies, the check engine light comes on when it dies. It will start right back up and Idle just fine till I go again. Ive changed the oil and fuel filter and have checked for any lose wires and have not found anything wrong. Any suggestions on what to do or where to start?

SORRY,thought you had an 500 EFI! Could be an ecm module problem, especially since it is the Chinese module (black finned module under front cover) Bad about charging ,fan operation,or even no run conditions if bad! Had MAJOR recalls on the ecm,Check with your dealer on your vin#. Again welcome to the forum. OPT

Default Thanks

Thank you for the sugestion. I was wondering if I should check other thing like the MAP or the cam position sensor before I go buy this part. I checked the dealer and they didnt not have a recal on it, so I was just wondering if there would be something else besides that. Its kinda expensive.

You posted as having a 500 HO this is a CARB model. If you have a 500 efi,THEN yes you can check for any bare wire on the crank sensor harness where it rubs against the starter motor, but most of the time erratic idling, popping back was caused by a short in the map sensor harness or connector. Repair kit number for the map sensor is #2676315. IF you do have the carb model then most of the problems were the ECM and its under a Service Safety Bulletin and should be replaced at no cost!! Map sensor wiring short is my best guess! the wires can break internally and also the connector can have problems. We replaced a LOT of harness kits! they come with a new connector harness, shrink fit connectors and instructions. They are very SMALL wires and you might need to read the "sticky" about the wires OPT

Not with out connecting to Digital Wrench! You can see if it throws throws the code number on your speedo as a start(can't remember if its code 45?). Plus basically all the rest you can do is check for obvious bare wires. OPT

I tried the speedo check and nothing came up. Why wouldn't it check it.
