Cool bombardier 650 rotax smoking cdi box

Battery died, so i pulled it out of the bike and charged it at a 2amp for 5 hours. battery volts was around 12.3 volts, shouldn't be to high. Put battery back in bike and atempted to start, as soon as i turned switch on to start cdi box starts to smoke. Any help be nice.

I am having the same problem, My battery died so I charged it. After it charged I started the bike, it ran terrible and died the CDI box was very hot. I replaced the CDI and it ran for a few minutes and died again. I also noticed that the Tach did not work. Will a bad battery burn up the CDI box?
