Mods on a Wolverine
#1
I recently purchased a '98 Yamaha Wolverine and I was womdering if you could tell me what mods I should install on this quad. I know that this quad is famous for getting you all muddy so I am planning on purchasing the ater market mud flaps, but beyond this I have no idea what to get. Can you help me out.

You definitely need the Dynojet kit and a K&N air filter. This will really increase your mid-range and low end torque, which the wolverine is famous for lacking. I also added a FMF mega max II pipe, which is very versitile for sound adjustments. But white brothers make a pretty good pipe also.

A pipe with proper jetting and a new air filter should give a better and increased power curve. White Brothers and SuperTrapp are pretty good from what I hear. And yes they get you plenty dirty. I still havent got anything for mine. I will admit when your out for a nice calm ride and its a little wet out, it sure is a pain in the **** cause you darn well know your not coming back clean.....Even if you dont open her up!

shoesmb pretty much nailed it. He listed all the performance I have on mine too, However I also have, and would strongly suggest getting bigger, multi-ply tires. The tires that come on the Wolverine are all but useless. They get very little traction, leave you with very little ground clearance, and a sharp stick will go through the side of them with little effort. If you leave the stock tires on, you will find you'll be doing more pushing than riding when you get to the mud, and you'll be pumping up all 4 tires every time you wanna go for a ride. I went with the 25" Kenda Bear Claws. They made the difference between me being the worst in the mud of all my buddies, to me being the best in the mud. However, the bigger tires will rob you of some power, so I would definatly get the power mods first. ie, pipe, jet kit, and K&N filter.

I wouldn't rush into buying new tires until you find that you really need them Depending on the type of riding you do the stockers may be ideal.
Don't forget that when you go to a thicker carcass you add alot of weight, which slows you down alot.
I actually found that the stock tires were pretty good in the mud, but I guess it depends on the type of mud and riding technique.
I have, however, switched to 25" tires and aluminum rims from a Grizzly. Huge difference in ground clearance, and an unbelievable difference in the snow. For playing riding in the summer though, I'll probably go back to the 23's.
If you want some cheap mods, try removing your exhaust baffle and drill some holes in your airbox lid.
