I just bought a 2007 800EFI and I have a few questions. On the headlight pod there is a rubber plug that says EFI diagnostic but when I pull the rubber plug out there is nothing behind it, so what should be there? Next question is what should the rpms be at idle and how do you set them? It idles about 1100-1200 rpms and shifter gets really hard to shift from gear to gear, but it works fine when not running. Last but probably the most important is the fuel gauge does not show up at all on the speedo like a gas guage does not even exist on this model. Im sure that is not correct. How can I tell if its a problem in the speedo or the fuel sending unit? Anyone have any help for me?

 

i think on the newer models even though the rubber plug says diagnostics the plug is actually inside the pod so that is normal, that is the normal rpm range for an 800, i had shifting problems like that after i put a new belt on once it was broke in the shifting got much easier, and there should be fuel bars on the right side that go up and down, if nothing is there that isn't right and as far as what fixes that not sure but sounds like you are on the right track good luck

 

Awsume is spot on. Just curious, have you taken the pod apart to see if everything is connected under there? If so, probably a bad sender which is supposedly not serviceable, however I have seen posts elsewhere that show how they can be serviced

 

Thanks guys for the answers. I have taken the pod apart and took a quick look but didnt see anything unpluged. I did just replace the drive belt due to a broken belt so I hope the shifting gets better soon. What is the small flat white 3 prong connector in the headlight pod for? It is just laying there not pluged into anything. I would assume this is not the sending unit wire.

 

they all had the rubber blank plug. both my 06 and 08' had it. how many miles onthe bike? could be the ebs system is starting to go bad as to make it shift hard. the rpms is where they are from factory, so no need to adjust. i would think even w/ a bad sending unit, you still should see where the gas agauge is. maybe bad wires on the unit. i seen where guys had to replace unit to get gas gauge to work.

 

I think it has around 1100 miles. Does anyone know of an aftermarket fuel pump/sending unit replacements?

 

Those are usually for add-ons like heated grips. Sending unit on mine was a purple and a brown or black I believe, but I have a carbed HO so it could be different. All the 12 volt (i.e. hot from battery) wires on mine are orange with a white stripe. If the connector you speak of has a color like that or your model year equivalent then it's definitely for a powered add-on.
