I'm thinking about buying 28" outlaw tires for my '00 Foreman 450 ES. Are there any disadvantages? Do they take a lot of the low end torque? Is the ride really rough on hard surfaces? Does it handle well? Are there any better tires out there? Where can I find a really good deal for them? If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

They do take a ton of power to turn. They ride rough under 10 mph and are not good for trails. They are made for mud....pure mud.

Hmmm.. What would you suggest for an all around trail/ mud/ some sand and snow tire. One of my friends swears that Spider trac is the best. I want an aggressive tire with a decent ride.

Also, what do you think about the high lifter lift kits? Do you need to lift a foreman 450 for 28's? Or do you just need a different fender kit. I've been looking at the 2in lift, but didn't know how it would handle.
Again I appreciate any info. Thanks.

For an all around tire the Outlaw is NOT the way to go. Something like the Mud Bug or Titan 589 would be better for you. If you want to run 28 (which will only be in very aggressive tires) I am not sure how they fit on a Foreman. The lifts are made well but they do cause more strain on your quad. Some people ride with them forever and dont have problems, some people have problems. Unless you really need one I would say dont get one.

I'll look into those tires some more. Maybe a 27 is all I'll need. It should give me about an inch more clearace than the stock 25's.
Do yo know where the cheapest place to buy tires is? eg. Dennis Kirk etc? As a college student money is an issue. I don't mind spending the money, I just want the best value I can get. Thanks.

When you had your mudbugs how did they work I am thinking of getting either them or the titan 589's

MaineForeman:
Hey, you might want to look into the Bi Claw/Tri Claw combination in the 27" magnums for your 450. I was looking into the MudBugs and 589's originally, but was then talked into the 'Claws instead. I bought them from High Lifter, delivered to my door in Washington, from Texas for right around $400. Unlike other tires out there, the 'Claws are TRUE to size, standing AT LEAST 27". Mine measure a little over 27" at recommended psi.

As for their performance, I absolutely love them. They are great in the mud, handle great in all-terrain conditions, and are surprisingly well mannered on hard pack. Overall, I am really happy with them, and would definately buy them again.

I just got back from a ride down in Oregon with a Grizzly who had the 589's in the 27" size. Sitting side by side, it was clear that my 'Claws were indeed taller than his 27" 589's. There was this one little bog we went through where a 2wd Honda had to be winched through. The hole got tore up pretty good in the process, before the Grizzly went through. I was last to go, and with everybody already across, they watched as I crawled down into the pit. The 'claws walked right through with ease, and one of the guys said that they definately handled that pit better than the 589's. I personally don't know, as I was driving, this is just what one guy had noticed. Either way, both tires did make it through the pit and as long as you do get through, who cares what tires you've got, right?.

Anyway, might be another tire to consider. There was a sportsman up there too with spidertracs, but they were pretty well worn out and spinning like crazy through everything. Can't really comment on them.

Best of luck,

Mike

I recently was on the new tire crusade and did a lot of shopping and comparison. I originally thought I wanted Outlaws or Vamps, but was soon convinced that for the riding I do – they were not for me. The Outlaws and Vamps are strictly a mud tire.
I live in NH, so we probably ride on the same terrain, mainly trails with mud holes.
I went with ITP BlackWater XT’s. I have a Grizzly 600 and could easily fit the 27” XT’s. These are 6 lug = + puncture resistant / - harder ride.
Deep lugs = + great in Mud / - vibrate on pavement.
Snow = + Dig until the bite something / - constantly “hunting” left and right on the trail because they are wider than most and want to bite into something.

The local Yamaha dealer wanted $217 per tire / rim or over $850. I bought the same package ( ITP steel wheels and Tires already mounted) for $575 ( or somewhere around there, I don’t have my receipt in front of me) delivered to my door from www.Atvgear.com They are cheapest place on the net (That I found, and I looked for hours) and they include shipping and handling, where most places do not and that can add on an easy $40. Dennis Kirk has anything you want, but you also have to pay for it. I feel they drastically over charge and can find the same product elsewhere for cheaper. Do a search in this forum and you will find quite a few ATV parts dealers.

To everyone who has responded and anyone who responds in the future Thanks. I know I'm not going with the outlaws, because they just don't suit my needs. I appreciate the help, and look forward to getting more opinions in the weeks to come. Warm temps in Maine have been knocking down the snow banks, and I know the season is coming fast. I'll most likely be buying tires within a month or so. In the meanwhile I look forward to more input. Again, thank you all.
