Default Squeak in rear axle on 250ex

I'm getting a loud squeak in the rear axle of differential on my 250ex. I jacked it up and rotated the axle---you can hear the noise in one area as I rotate the axle on full turn. I haven't done anything else yet. Does the rear axle fluid ever go completely dry?

I bought a used Recon and the diff was pretty empty. It shouldn't lose any but for a few bucks, if it's low, top it off. Don't ride it if it's low.

I would look at the bearings as the source of the squeak as opposed to the gears inside the rear drive (note, it is not a differential)

Open up the drain plug and see what the gear oil looks like, but unless it has a milky appearance, I'm betting it is the bearings

It was the rear brake dragging. I fixed that and no more noise or dragging. I'm going to check the fluid anyway though. Thanks...
