06 brute 750 various questions
#1
I’m a basically a noob to this utilty quad forum so many questions about my latest. Feel free to answer which ever part you like by number, but please give me solid info. Links help too.
Just bought a 2006 Kawasaki brute force 750 (carburetors), all stock other than uni-filter.
1.Will cough occasionally when fully warmed up and overheats if you make repeated top end blasts- boils bake into overflow. Both of those things combined make me think it’s lean??? BTW speedo showed 66MPH.
I just ordered a Dynojet kit to install.
It does not overheat if ridden ‘normal’.
2.Going on a long, chartered, trial ride in Maine the end of month. I want to LIGHTLY waterproof this quad. I should not need snorkels for my idea of ‘fun’ in the water. I would imagine there are people making snorkels though at home. Build links would be cool. So what are the BASIC waterproofing tricks.
3. need recommendation for back rack pack and I was told I will need it on this trip. Since the rack on these is fairly small and no rails it is important I get one that attaches well.
4.I was told that the dynatek(sp?) CDI box will really wake these brute force quads up. I do not want to install an aftermarket pipe, besides the Kawis havea nice thump stock. The main guys I will be with have a Polaris 700 efi and a modded Can am 650 Efi so I know I can ‘keep up’. Any other ‘ bang for the buck’ mods.
5. is a CLUTCH KIT only needed if larger tires are used or does it add snap to all quads with CVT? My tires are AGGRESSIVE Kenda executioners, but are stock height.
That’s it FOR NOW, LOL.
thanx for any help, crossy

the 05 & 06 were known to have factory jet issues- running too lean if I remember correctly
would cause tons of popping & backfiring.
both my bf's would over heat on a regular basis- and my friends did also- actually have pics of us dipping the atv in a lake to cool it off. keep the mud outta the radiator- the radiator is just big enough to cool the motor, any blockage and it'll overheat.
lots of complaints of water entering the airbox through the breather- no inner fenders allowed water to splash directly into the box intake. Also the belt did slip a few times on me- easy enough to dry off in low gear / high rpm after it was drained- but the biggest pita was the manual toggle trip switch in the cvt cover- look up how to relocate that toggle! It'll put you in "limp home mode" until you reset the toggle and the jumper under the seat- (a very stupid set up)
I love the moose semi-rigid back pack. No velco to freeze up in the winter or trap dried clay / mud in- it uses a simple thumb buckle flap to keep the the zippers covered and clean-
don't know anything about the cdi...
clutch kit is a good idea with the oversized tires-

my bad- for stock height It's really not a "must have" but you would get better performance from a clutch kit...

Deffinately snorkle the air box intake and CVT intake and exhaust if your water ridding - A 3" intake to the air box is recommended - 2" snorkles on the CVT. You may have to rejet the carbs/you may not - I used Kehin style main jets - there's plenty of forums which explain. Dynatec will add seat of your pants increase and will do away with the reverse limiter and the LIMP MODE. I use a tool box for storage on rear rack - I will upgrade to the Stanley FAT MAX water proof box. Die electric grease all your electrical connections, don't over do it though - die electric grease your spark plug boots too. There is also a front and rear buss connector mod - you cut the connectors and reconnect/solder the appropriate wires together - do a search on that. As for the fan,I connected a switch to mine to operate it manually as needed, and I installed a 10" automotive electric fan on mine for 48.00 from Pep Boys.

well i found out with the Dynatek CDI you don't need to flip the toggle switch in the CVT area around as it has an overide built in. the dynatek should be here soon.
I've been looking for pics of the CVT snorkel??????????????
