I'm curious as to what you guys think should be the first 1000 dollars worth of mods to a Raptor. I'm thinking PRM skid plates first for protection, then who knows from there? Would there be enough left for GYT-R pipe and maybe tires? Maybe just replace the rears, or is it good to keep all 4 matched. I read a post earlier, and it mentioned that the tires made a big difference in the "fun factor." I think a 12T sprocket is in order too. As for the type of riding, I would like to keep the Raptor good in as many areas as possable. I dont want it to be good in the sand, and so-so everywhere else. I'm not into racing. Thanks!

Come on guys, give me some hints! I'm sorry if this type of question has probably been done to death, but after adding these mods, it will be awhile before I'll be able to add anything else. I'm most interested in my question about the tires. Thanks,

First $500:

Rear Tires & Wider Axle. You'll like it a whole lot better.

Second $500:

I'm going to go Pipe and Jets.

You can see in my signature what I went with. I would go all skids first if you ride in any rocky areas and I like my sprockets comb. I don't have the tires on yet but I think the gearing will still be ok. I wasted a front tire last weekend, I wondered how long it would take. I personally am not going to a wider axle because I ride alot of trails and I like it a little narrower than other quads. I am trying to decide on a pipe, mainly for the sound as I don't think I need any more power than I have. I will probably put a K&N and a jet kit on the same time as the slip-on. As for the next 1000.00 if I spend it, it will be on shocks!

Thanks for the replies. What would one suggest for rear tires? I would like them good all round, but that would slide a bit. I will be in Arizona for the next few years if that if that makes a difference. I'm not sure as to the type of trails there, but I prefer trails to dunes. Also, is there a way to widen the rear witout a new axle safely? Spacers? Thanks again!

Yes either Razors or holeshots should do you good. Yes you can get wheel spacers for about 50$ a set from CFM performance.
