Default 420 Fi Randomly dies and runs rough

Hi Everyone.

I have a 2007 420 Fi.

I had not used my 420 for a week or two but she had run with no problems since being stored. Fired up first time and ran fine for a good 20mins before being put back away. The next day again fired up first time but after getting about 20yards down the field the engine started to die and cut out. It sounded like a lack of fuel and upon checking the tank was low so I filled her up. She fired up first time but once again died with 20yards sounded like a fuel issue.

I let her stand for a hour or so just incase the new fuel stirred some muk up. After the hour fired first time and ran perfectly again and I thought it must of just stirred some muk up but since then everytime I come to start her she fires and then within 20seconds beings to struggle and dies out. Even giving a few revs doesnt keep it going.

It seems a fuel issue but not being very knowledgable with the fuel injection sytem just looking for some advice before I start stripped it back.

I just cant understand what has changed to suddenly cause her to not run.

Thanks in advance

Default Fuel filter

Check your fuel filter, you could have a clump of mud in tank, clean it out and go have fun on it!-- How is the air cleaner? Good Luck!

hi, you have 2 remove the side plastics (just 2 save yourself a headache) and the seat, you should be able 2 get full access from there, you may have 2 remove the tank..

Three things to examine.
1. Replace the fuel filter. This is a disk shaped filter located inside the fuel pump.
2. Check that your fuel cap vent hose is not clogged (makes a negative pressure inside tank restricts fuel from being sucked into the fuel pump).
3. Clean the fuel screen that is located in the petcock.

Let me know how you make out.

This will probably sound strange, but be sure the right hand brake lever on the handle bars is released all the way. If the bike starts with the safety switch there engaged, it can make it run erratically. Mine did.
