polaris 335 sportsman propellershaft removal

the drive shaft from the transmission to the front axel housing. i have to replace both u joints on the shaft

First off remove the two caliper bolts on the rotor(1/2" bolts) and move back out of the way, then pop the hub cover on the front wheel, remove the nut, washer and pull the hub and rotor off(noting the bearings, hilliard assembly, armature plate, and how it goes back together
) remove the cotter pin from the ball joint nut, remove nut and you may have to hit the a-arm hard with a big chisel and punch to separate it from the ball joint so the swing arm can drop down. Remove the tie rod end from the strut assembly and move out of the way. On the front part of the drive shaft going into the gear case is a roll pin that has to be driven out! You may have to remove the TOP bolt that secures the brake line to the strut to be able to pull out on the strut enough and bend the drive shaft to where it can pull out of the strut housing (friends help)
don't forget the bearing on the drive shaft when you replace with a new drive shaft or whatever! When the drive shaft is out of the strut, several short jerks and it should pop out of the gear case.Be sure to align the hole in the drive shaft and gear case shaft for the roll pin when you re install. PS one post said drive shaft the other said prop shaft( from transmission to the front gear case!
There is a difference!! To remove the PROP SHAFT,knock out the roll pin in the shaft at the front of the gear case, best if you have an air hammer to drive the REAR of the shaft toward the transmission to where the front U-joint will come off the gear case. Once the front is clear, move it to the left a little and drive FORWARD on the rear u-joint to remove it from the transmission shaft, then pull prop shaft out from the atv. Then you can replace the joints! OPT
