Unhappy Hanma 110 ATV Gets No Power When Key Is On

Hi All,

I have a Hanma 110 mini-ATV, I believe its the same as the SunL. It’s been flawless for the past 4-5 years. I had ridden it, turned it off, went to use it 15 minutes later, turned the key and nothing. I get no power. The lights don’t turn on, nothing.

I did a little checking. The battery has 12V. I also checked the key, it’s supplying 12V’s out when in the “on” position but the 12V key signal goes into one of the many electronics boxes. With all the electronics boxes I’m not sure how to diagnose it. I checked all the fuses I could find and all the fuses are good. Does anyone have any ideas how to diagnose this?

Not related to the above problem, I was fiddling with stuff weeks after the no-power problem and I knocked the wire out of the tethered kill switch on the back of the ATV. I don’t know if these wires should be shorted or separated to allow the ATV to run.

If anyone can give me any help with diagnosis tips I would really appreciate it.

Art.

Art,

Look at the wire color that has 12 volts switched on and off with the ignition switch. What color is it? Don't give me the color of the wire on the ignition switch short pigtail wires. Give the color of the wire in the main harness.

Then do a thorough search of your quad. Look at every connector and document any wire emerging form the wiring harness to any connector that has the same color wire. Identify what these connectors connect to (if you can) like brake switch, CDI module, etc. If don't know what it is connecting to then describe it as best you can, like: "A black module with 11 wires. The wire colors (in the main harness) are..."

Are you sure about the ignition switch really switching 12 volts on and off? If you're sure we need to look downstream from there (as described above) . If your not completely sure let's verify that first, and if necessary look upstream if you don't have switched 12 volts.

I figured it out. Thanks for the suggestions on how to trace things out. While tracing out the wires I stumbled upon the problem. When I traced the wires up to the hand brake switch I noticed that one of the wire connectors had came off. When I connected it back up, the brake lights came on and all power was restored. I guess I never noticed that no power at all works when the brakes are not applied. Guess that goes to show that even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while.

As for the safety tether in the back, apparently when the wires are shorted together it kills power. With the wires no shorted the quad works.

Now if I could just locate a front brake lever, the one down on the wheel that the cable connects to. Mine fell off so only one front brake works.

Again, thanks for the help!
