Damaged CV Joints and Lift Kits
#1
I am looking for comments on damaged CV joints and what causes them. I have been told too much lift is the biggest reason for their failure. I have 2 1/2 to 3 inches of lift on my Honda 300 with Progressive 512 shocks and a Lift Kit. I am thinking about taking the lift kit off to avoid stressing the components too much but hate to unnecessarily do so. The angle of the front drive components is sharp though no trouble after 10 months of use.
I suppose heavy mudding might be enough to break them. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of this situation?

Hi Tealboy I am also concerned by the effects of a lift kit on various components, not only CV joints but ball joints and other steering components, but I have yet to find anything written on any of these formentioned concerns we have. I played it fairly safe and only lifted my 2001 Foreman 1", which I felt was the comfortable level of travel for all components concerned.

Just cost me about $600.00 big one's on my 2003 Rincon. Front inner CV connector and boots on both sides. I am running 27" ITP 589's and a highlifter lift kit. Dealer just sent parts back to Honda to show the problem of changing the angle to much. Got rid of the lift kit. High Lifter states that the lift has plenty of clearance but when you add highspeed bumps to the equation you will run into problems quick. We put on 130 miles of mud and high speed road travel this weekend and when we put the quads on the trailer we found the damage.
