Default z400 vs. 400ex vs. raptor660/700 or ?

Hello,

Looking to buy a used sport quad... I'm about 5'11" and 275lbs. I'd like some suggestions on a good all purpose quad for trails and goofing off. Locally on Craigslist there are some nice 2002-2007 Honda 400ex's, also I found a 1 owner 2006 Suzuki Z400 in really nice condition and I've recently been looking at the Raptor 660/700. I'll be riding with my friend who bought an 07 z400. The most I want to spend is $2500 and would prefer to spend less if possible. Any years or models you'd recommend? Also, what do you look for when buying a used quad? All opinions appreciated.

Thanks!

400ex would fit the bill nicely, but both are good bikes.

Check for lose bushings bearings, grab the a-arms and push pull, grab the wheels and turn them by hand. Turn the handle bars slowly check for loose steering components. Check the rear axle and swingarm bearings. On sport quads I always lift the front end and stand it on the rear grab bar and inspect the underside.
