Default starter trouble. 96 polaris

I have a 96 Polaris sportsman 400 the starter brushes are worn out by the sound I cannot get it off. I've unbolted it and supposed to just slide out buy its not I even lightly wedged a rod in there to pry it out with no luck... Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

how many bolts have you removed? there are two inside the recoil cover, along with the corner bolt of the cover goes into the starter. plus whats on the other end behind the clutch cover.
