2000 DS 650 started backfiring after being stored HELP!
#1
I have a 2000 DS 650 that doesnt get rode that much after buying a rzr and now it wont start. when i try to start it, it tries to start for a second and than backfires. The last time i rode it was 7-8 months ago and it ran fine. I keep stablizer in it when I think its going to be park for a long period of time. It has spark and is getting gas, my guess was the carb is pluged or need to be cleaned which i did and has not helped it at all. The motor has hp cams, piston, intake and lectron carb.
Any ideas? Am i missing something when i cleand the carb? Im at my whits end, any help would be great
thanks.....

I don't have the same bike, but its a bombardier, around the same year. What I've read in the manual is that it could be caused by "Improper Carburetor setting, Exhaust system leakage, Engine running too hot, incorrect ignition timing or ignition system failure." When mine backfired while starting up, It turns out we had to adjust the idle setting on the carburetor. Also, be sure it's not burning too rich that's what was causing me the problem.

I like to start with the simple stuff first. If you haven't already, check your air filter that it is properly cleaned and maintained. Also check the intake tract. Critters find that area a good place to nest, and they tend to plug the intake right up with junk. I would also drain all the gas and change out to a fresh spark plug. Make sure the battery is fully charged and will hold a charge. If it is still acting up, I would double check that the carb is clean. Pay special attention to the pilot.

good advice, those are things that did wonders when I was having trouble with my bike. It's also amazing how much fresh spark plugs will help, same with charging the battery, sometimes it just doesn't have enough power to completely start up the motor.
