2001 Polaris Magnum 325 4x4 thermistor
#1
I have a 2001 polaris magnum 4x4 and I think the thermistor is bad. Seems like that is a very common issue in that model. Has there been any improvement to that part over the years. Why do they have that thermistor set to let the oil get all the way to 260 degrees before kicking the fan on. Are there any ways to put in a lower temperature thermistor?

Welcome! If you read some of the posts from owners that own the 325 and 330 engines,a lot of them haven't heard the fan ever come on! Very seldom did I ever get one hot enough at the shop to kick the fan on. Just my
on this, I don't think they ever actually needed a fan since you already have the engine oil being cooled by air flow through the oil cooler. Under constant heavy load, slow moving with little air flow, then yes at times a fan might help. Yes they are bad about the thermistors going out,but I'm not aware of any lower temperature sensor available. Some have even hooked the fans up on switches and kicked em on in certain conditions. # 4010274 thermistor is around $74(too high!) at Cycle Parts Warehouse. You might check at different auto stores or you can check Perma-Cool and see if any of their applications might work or try this place. Auto Part Number 31147 From Flex-a-lite | StreetPerformance.com Both places did show lower temp 185 degree kick on sensors, but don't know if they would work. OPT

Thanks OPT, I did have an issue with the machine at slow speeds in town. I am not sure it was too hot but it sure acted like it was overheating. I had just purchased it and didn't know much about the thermistor. I have a bit more knowledge now that is why I was looking for a solution that kicks in a bit sooner. Thanks for the suggestions, I will check them out.
