Exclamation Help 2000 Kodiak 400 Motor Knocks And Greyish Smoke

Just bought a new toy. 2000 Kodiak 400 4x4 for CHEAP.... theres a reason tho. It has a knock in the motor and smokes a little bit. Not real noticeable but it does. I changed the oil and ran it down the road and it died and wont start back. The relay under the seat clicks and it will turn over once slow but thats it. Think it may be a bad batt? All the help will be GREATLY appreciated. This is my first yamaha, im a prior honda man. Thanks in advance guys!!... And gals? lol

On the no start up I think your on the right track. A couple times I've had a problem with it not having a good ground on the battery post so first check your cables and put a charge on it if needed. Good luck

Okay finally got it to turn over and when it did it sounded a little rough. Like a bearing of some sort is out or crank??

Okay finally figured it out!! Seems the guy that i bought it from had spun the bearings on the crank. Instead of buying a new crank i found a whole lower end for about 120 on ebay. Sweet i get to do a bottom end swap! haha
