new to forum 2000 ds650

just bought a 2000 ds650 my first 4 stroke bike i have owned a couple 250r quads and a atc and this thing just feels dog'ish i cant imagine i should have to damn near jump on the back of it to bring the nose up seems to run fine i have checked the diaphragm at the top of the carb seems ok no holes the bike still has stock pipe but i saw it does have a procom cid and a k&n filter any thoughts
oh i did find the intake tube from carb to intake had a small crack but someone tried to repair it idk if it was leaking or not i ordered a new one

Welcome to the Forum. I know what you feel like, I had a 250R ATC before i got my DS. A whole bunch of changes for sure. It will take a bit to get used to but you will love it for sure.
I found a couple of things to improve first were gearing, not sure what size of rear tires you are running - if you are using 22" you will want to drop the front sprocket by 1 tooth - down to a 15 tooth.
Exhaust - is it still stock? - if so you need a pipe to let her breath.
Carb - get it set up right, you should not have any poping or back firing. There are some carb mods on here, that do wonders.
A few simple steps will have you wondering how you lived without your DS so long.
