no i think a 2004.5 is considered a 2004.5... the 2005s got the updated styling and better front suspension among other changes, but yeah i know what you mean. the ecm wasnt my question

Basically all 600 and 700 carb models from 2002 to 2004 were equipped with the Ducati ignitions. Latter part of 2004 is when they were first doing the swap in ignition systems for the 600 and 700 to Kokusan. If you had a model built after September I think, the Kokusan was installed. Last year of the 600 model built was in 2005. Last year of the carb model 700 was 2006 and the 700 efi remained until 2007 when it was dropped from the line in favor of keeping the 800 efi. You can tell real quick as to what system you have. Just pop the front panel and if you have "coil pack" combo cdi and coil that says Ducati you will have problems! If you have separate cdi and coil you have the Kokusan system.OPT

I know its not your question but if your getting one recall done you might as well get them all done.
A 2004.5 is either considered a 2004 or 2005 on recall lists. They have the 2004 and 2005 SP500 both on the list, not sure how a 2004.5 could slip by it.

The ignition system wasn't a recall if he needs one. Should have been, but Polaris slipped this to the customers dollar! I had a lot of complaints on this, but couldn't help even when I called Polaris! Problem is almost all the ones that I replaced went out after the warranty period, some could go a few years before they acted up,then is when Polaris took notice and changed the ignition system! Even I was taken by surprise when I ordered my first stator that showed bad and saw that it had changed to a kit number instead! OPT
