My 2000SP500 will pull a wheelie, but I notice the belt slips under full throttle at a dead stop. It only slips a little bit, but it never did this when it was new. I replaced my belt in hopes of solving this problem, but it still does it and my old belt looked new. I am sure it is due to the fact that my pullies have glazed over. Do you guys have any advice on how to knock the glaze of off the pullies? I was planning on using steel wool. I appreciate any input.

Greg

Greg,
Steel wool is too fine, use a scotchbrite pad. It's sort of a manmade steelwool. Use fine or medium. You can get them at auto paint supply stores, the hardware store carries them too sometime. Some dishwashing sponges have them glued to the reverse side too. Most pullies are machined to a 32 to 45 microfinish. A medium scotchbrite will get you there.

One mechanic told me that he used Scotch Brite on the pulleys whenever he changed a belt. Did it on his snowmobile too.

Thanks guys. I guess I will polish the pullies every couple of months.
