Default No rear shock on racer

Hi everyone...

I got a 400ex with xr650L big bore and few mods

Im making the swing arm and would like to eliminate shock( for weight) and just place a bar with no suspension

My question will it ride bad( very rough) or not that bad?

or i should try and place a shock, would stock atv shock be strong enough for a 6 inch(longer) swing arm?

You ask a very strange question that would not even cross most riders minds.
With that being said the only people I know of who remove the shocks are drag racers. I dont like to plug other forums but I have seen threads about this on exriders.
Yes the ride will suck. How bad? Very bad!!!
You can use a stock shock if the geometry is the same. But if you are dumping a ton of $ in to the ex why not upgrade the rear shock.
I would like to see some pics of how you got that 650 in the ex frame. The build has crossed my mind a few times.

Lol. Riding on some decent shocks vs riding on a steel bar.

Well, your question boggles the mind. Replacing the rear shock with a bar may save you a few pounds, but the ride is going to suck. My dad still has an '80s quad with no rear shock and anything 15+mph over any kind of irregularities sucks. Not to mention the loss of traction you are going to have. IMHO, not worth it unless you drag race on a constantly smooth surface.

Once a year, you're gonna wish you had a rear shock.

86,720 posts wow highest i ever saw online

I already finished the swingarm( waiting on a chain)

if i place the shock, the linkage will only give me a 4-5 inch of clearance so not really worth it and dangerous or i place it higher and bike looks like im going down hill.

i seen others place a shorter shock with no linkage, might try that.

Im running 22inch tires... maybe aired down not to bad for a trail ride

Heres pic of bike... front shocks were stripped down and painted

its a old pic .... the duel pipes are 1 1/2 inch gsxr1100 headers I modded on... air filter(K&N) is from a honda civic, xr650r carb. 680 big bore 9.2 ratio, hotcam, best mod is the nx650 carb boot... its strait and 1 inch longer than stock xr650l boots
