I have a 96 scrambler 400 with a DG pipe and silencer. I was wondering what spring It has in it from stock, and which one I should change to for increased performance. I have little bigger tires also. Any info on spring changing would help.

I don't know what spring a 96 Scrambler comes stock with, but 99 400 Scramblers(including mine) came stock with the Polaris "white" spring. The next step up was the HPD "plain" spring I bought from RCR when I did the RCR "stage one" kit. It raised the engagment RPM a few hundred or so, enough so that I have to use the override switch to move at all in reverse on anything except flat level ground. I've noticed that my mid range HPD pipe hits just a couple of hundred RPM after my "plain" spring engages. This only matters when starting out on a fairly steep uphill climb or in heavy snow, but in these conditions, my Scrambler can bog for a few seconds until I can get the RPM's to come up just a little to get moving... I think the Polaris green spring is quite a step up from the white...I would call Rick at RCR, who is an expert in this stuff, and will gladly tell what he know so that you can decide.
Good luck,
Lorrin Lee

Thanks for the info, you wouldn't happen to know Ricks phone number would you. Anyone for that matter. Is there any other way for me to get a hold of him?

Here's Ricks website:

Also consider HPD's aggressive clutch kit.

HPD6plain spring engage 55 shiftout 216 it is an awsome spring And HPD is the only place you can get it for that kind of shiftrate and it is perfect spring if you plan on adding a pipe
later on.
I see you all ready have a pipe
hope this helps

well it should engage somewhere in between the polaris white and green spring it will not shift to top gear as fast as those though which should give more bottom end and still keep a good top end
at least this is what I believe all I know is I have it on my Scrambler and it is the cat's @SS I really like it but then again I have the 500 and you have the 400 so what is good for me might not be good for you.
