Been looking to buy a Scrambler and finally sold my 450r, so now I have the cash. I had been looking at years 04-09 but found a 2011 for only $3400. Does this sound too low or are there any issues with the 2011? The body style on the 2011 is pretty ugly looking, but I'm sure I will get used to it. The other one I was looking at was a very clean 04 for the same price. The 04 plastics are definitely better looking but its also 9 years old and even well kept I would imagine rubber seals and gaskets could be drying out and parts rusting, just seems like a better idea to buy newer for the same price.

$3400 for any 2011 4x4 sounds suspicious to me. Unless it's someone who really doesn't ride anymore and doesn't care if he takes a major loss on selling..... I just don't see a 500 cc 4x4 that new for that little.

 

It is at a dealer and is used and was a trade-in. It is in Oklahoma, and I have always found things to sell a little cheaper down there.

I have enlarged all the pictures to look at everything up close and it looks good. The exhaust and header looks a little rusted, but may just be coated with burnt on red dirt.

What should I look at once I am physically in front of it? Check the frame? Water?

Do ATV dealers have any lemon laws like car dealers?

That red Okie dirt will stain everything it touches.Hard to even power wash this crap off without something still colored red!. Normal to have pipes and exhaust a nice red baked on color from this dirt and sand. Make sure the dealer has at least has changed the oil and filter and air filter.If they will jack up the rear end for you(they will if they want to sell it bad enough) check for any axle play(rear housing bearings) and chain and sprockets. The main thing is the front wheel drive. All they have to do is jack up the front end also to check the operation or place the front end against a post or any thing solid to check it out.Can get expensive if it has plastic roll cage problems in the front gear case(aluminum cages are an option on the parts list) Like Moose said,this does sound a little cheap compared to ones I've seen on Craigslist,etc. Clean 2008- 2009 models are going for this price down here. Some dealers might offer you a little warranty(we did at the shop on clean used machines),but get it in writing if they do! A lot of dealers wont! You have to remember the factory warranty on a new one is only 6 months! Lemon law on used atv's? No,not really,but if you have a problem,a good dealer should try to meet you in the middle. OPT

 

As long as the condition is good and hopefully has low hours, just might be a good deal. I would love to have an older scrambler as a second atv. Ridden a few and had a lot of fun on them.

 

For an 04' thats way too much money. I bought my 05' for around $2k. may be a good price for the 11' though depending on shape and useage.

 

Found another Scrambler that might be suitable. Its an 08 with a epi clutch kit, fmf pipe, and mud lite tires for $3500, but has been listed for about a month now.

Going to look at the 2011 Saturday now. Still concerned about the price, and the fact that is already traded in

 

I'd be leery of the one with mud tires but it might not have been abused.

 

Usually I am leery of one with aftermarket things but this one looked very clean. Called them and I guess this was an older women's atv. Her husband bought it for her because she thought her grizzly was too bulky, He said he put the clutch kit on to keep it from burning through belts and the pipe was added so that he could hear if he lost her behind him on the trails. The tires appear to be over 90%. I could get it for $3200.

 

Doesn't sound like too bad a deal. I would try to get someone to check it out if you're not sure about it.
