Carb works on vacuum from the fuel pump to draw in the fuel better.Plus carbs are often the same height as the tanks making the fuel pump necessary in a lot of machines. It may not always be a fuel pump problem when it dies on you. Could be a vent line is partially blocked, needle and seat may have some trash under it reducing fuel flow. Even the fuel valve itself could be the problem.Could have some trash in the carb. Eliminate these as the problem. You can also pull the fuel line from the carb and crank the engine over to see if you have a good pulse of fuel from the pump. OPT

I would still check out the carb, plus even the fuel valve internal filters could be partially stopped up,causing problems. Something is causing it to die. Either a fuel blockage, vapor lock until it gets another "gulp "of air, plus make sure the problem isn't electrical related, loss of spark when it does this.
