14 tooth front sproket, what's the big deal

what's the advantage and dissadvantage of having a 14 tooth front sproket, why put one one? would it be good for my 250X

the advantage would be more top end. since the 250x has a lot of low end you can afford to lose some, unless you like the low end and dont want to sacrifice. if you get 20" rear tires you will lose some top end, thats where the 14 tooth comes in. the first thing most people do is get rid of the stock balloon tires, thats why they go with the 14 tooth.

you have it wrong if you drop a tooth in the front it gives you more low end also if you go from a 20" tire to a 22" tire lets say your gonna lose some of your low end

dude,
what are you talking about, youre right on the sprocket, but youre wrong on the tire size.

the 250x stock has a 13 tooth front sprocket and 22" rear tires. drop to a 20" rear tire and you lose top end. how can a smaller tire gain more ground than a bigger tire? the bigger tire travels farther per rotation resulting in more top end.

so, when you go with the 20" rear tires, a 14 tooth front sprocket will make up the diffrence and should bring you close to stock gearing.

Sorry dude wasn't thinkging straight for some reason I was thinking the 250x had a bigger spocket and he wanted to know what happend if he dropped a tooth.
