Default De-stake the nut?

On page 3.27 of my 03 predator service manual it says "to remove the clutch basket, remove the plunger from the center of the clutch and de-stake the nut to avoid damaging the threads upon removal"
How do you de-stake the nut?

I never heard of de-staking anything. I'm curious as to what that means.

The small indentation is on the shaft where you "stake" the nut, that is bend the thin section of the nut in against the shaft to keep the nut from turning. In removing the nut, this section needs to be pulled out with a thin punch/small screw driver so no pressure will be on the threads when removing the nut. Look close at the shaft and nut.Your nut actually has a small bend before the slot in the shaft that needs to be tapped out a little.
