Default 330 Trail Boss Fuel Issue

I have a 2004 330. The Bike sat for about a year and i am now trying to bring her back to life. OPT helped me confirm fixing the grinding from my gear box which was indeed the silent chain. Now to my fuel issue: The carb has been removed (not the jets) and soaked in carb cleaner over night. Fuel pump disassembled and cleaned, all fuel lines blown out. Fuel tank drained and dried. New air and fuel filter. When the bike initially fires with choke open, it revs almost to WOT until i close the coke. When i close the choke it idles down but wont stay running unless I open the choke slightly and continually tap the throttle. Does the air box need to be completely sealed to maintain an idle while i am making adjustments? Im guessing the jets need to be removed and cleaned correct? I am not familiar with 4-stroke carbs as i have only done this on 2-stroke snowmobiles. The instructions in the manual are very brief. based on what i have read there is a tamper plug that needs to be removed to access the pilot jet? I certainly appreciate your tips and help.

I think you already know what the problem is. Don't clean "at " the carburetor, but take it apart and clean it thoroughly.Install a new needle and seat, aftermarket kits are cheaper than just the needle and seat from the dealer. Make sure the float is level with the carb body after you install the needle and seat. You don't have to remove the tamper proof plug. Yes the air box needs to be enclosed, the air filter clean. After everything is clean run a good fuel stabilizer for ethanol fuel and you wont have any more carb problems.Polaris Trail Boss 330 2003 2004 2005 Carb Kit New | eBay

can you tell me how to locate the pilot jet? Is it the sunken brass part directly above the main jet and slightly offset to the starter jet? Thanks!

The pilot jet #26 is right behind the main jet and is recessed. Use a thin blade small screw driver to get it out.Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse
