Want to add an after market filter to my bike. I am also going to be purchasing a pipe soon. Is the UNI or K&N filter setup better? I was leaning towards the K&N and would like peoples thoughts on this. Most of my traile riding is dusty areas.

 

Either one is good and flows more air than stock. From what I've read, the Uni blocks more fine dust particles and imo is easier to clean. I've had both and never had any problems with either but I'm sticking with Uni from now on because we ride in a lot of dust,too.

 

K&N does a better job in sand where the particles are larger. Everything else(dust, mud) stick with uni/foam.

 

Search ebay or Google for Pro Design air filters. They use a K&N or UNI element depending on which you want, but they have a much tighter fit than a regular drop in filter will have. The guys at yfm350.com just told me this!

The regular K&N that I have, I've been having issues with the gasket coming off all the time, and it's also too thin to make a good seal, i.e. dirt will probably get in your engine.

I'm gonna patch mine up with windshield tape which is thicker, but if I hadn't already spent the money on the "regular" K&N I'd go with a Pro Design kit.

 

I agree 100%. The factory design is not very good.

If you're using a K&N get an Outerwear or K&N Precharger to cover the filter if you'll be in a lot of sand or dusty conditions.
