325 magnum 4x4 gearcase problem
#1
Friday I was riding and heard it making a weird noise. Headed back home and I something happened no forward or reverse. I pulled it home and tore into it.
I had the transmission out and noticed the bearing that holds the gears in place had moved and it let gear number 41( on the parts diagram) spin freely. So I tapped the bearing back over to tighten everything up. Put it back together and rode for about 30 seconds before it started making the noise again. Do bearings like that go bad or is it something else?
Thanks

Lot of work! The bearings and the silent chain are the main problem with this gear case. Usually there's a mix of Russian and Chinese bearings, the Russian bearings being the worst. You can use the universal # on the bad bearings to buy better NSK,***,SKF,etc online or from a good bearing supply company or auto parts house along with replacing the silent chain while you're at it. Wish you'd posted before you put it back together.

No the bearings don't have to be pressed in. You can simply place the bearings or complete shaft with bearings installed in a freezer, heat the case around the bearing area with a propane torch, then tap the complete shaft or bearing only in place. Helps to have a cheap bearing/seal installer.Great deal on Astro Pneumatic 7824 at ToolTopia.com
