hi guys, new here so I hope I am doing this right and in the right place!
Seem like the headlight pod on my quad has gone south,no movement of the needle, and the lcd readout comes and goes with a mind of its own.Checked the connection and they seem fine.Anyway I will get to the point,if it is toast how can I(or can I)rig it so my AWD will still work?
hope someone can help me out because the price of a new pod is out of the question!!!

Check the wiring not just the connector under the headlight pod going to the speedo as this is the most common area for shorts, especially if the speedo is intermittent. All the twisting and turning can create problems. Plus if it isn't registering speed, could be a bad hall effect sensor. This was another common item that would short out over a period of time. Item #28. ...thanks for the info OPT,and will check further down the wires for shorts and or breaks. Is there a way to know for sure if the hall effect sensor is bad,I dont want to spend good money on a guess. And also would a bad hall sensor cause the lcd display to have a mind of its own/Any more info would be a great help.

Not a good way without the hall effect sensor test harness, but if not registering speed or mileage, it's a safe bet the sensor is faulty. You can check to make sure there isn't any mud or dirt build up on the sensor cap and is firmly plugged into the speedo.Sensor shouldn't have anything to do with the display as far as intermittent operation, but a wiring short would..

Thanks again OPT,will investigate when time allows, and I hope you dont mind if I ask you more on this subject, any help will be a blessing since I have trip coming up and would like to have my ride in good working order

...but getting back to my original question,if I do find that the speedo is toast can it be by passed so the AWD will still work?

If you've determined the speedo is toast you can jump the brown/white wire from the speedo connector wiring to a good ground wire(brown) and you should have awd. Plus you might try this first and see if it works before you try the speedo harness.

OPT,we are on the same page,I just got through watchind that exact video before I checked back here, now thats trippy.Any way,I noticed that quad in the video has illuminated AWD by the switch,I have never noticed that on my machine, should mine light up,mine is a 2004 sportsman 400,the yellow one.and are those brown wires the ones that come up from both hubs
