This style filter(Polaris #3084963) is used by many different vehicles. Here's the full break down on oil replacement filters for a lot of machines. Look at #5 at the bottom of the page.Shows this man's preference. Motorcycle Oil Filter Cross Reference

st6607(wally world)made by champion seems like a good bet or will the longer st7317 fit,its only 3.25 inches, and the one on my quad now seems to be about that long
I am nervous about not buying from the dealer, but at around 60 bucks for oil and filter I want to go cheaper without sacrificing quality.Walmart is way cheaper and my local auto store has Mobil 0w-40 full synthetic on sale this weekend for 16 bucks for 4 liters, cant beat that

OPT,just read one of your replys to an older post about oils changes.I never thought of running engine after draining oil to empty sump, seems alot easier than getting at drain plug for the sump, think I will do this myself. As far as the screen filter goes,I might have to remove it,seems to be a minor leak on the seal and seeing that I will be getting my hands dirty anyway just as well to remove it,clean it if need be and put some new pipe dope on it.By the way is plumbers teflon tape o.k. for the theads on that fitting?

Teflon tape is fine for the screen threads. What I used at the shop.

This standard size filter even fits my old Honda street bike along with several others. I can use a Polaris filter,Wix,Purelator,K&N,Napa, etc if I wanted to. Even fits a couple Triumphs,Yamaha dirt and street and some Kawasaki models.Makes it a lot easier for people to have a standardized filter size so they can choose and don't have to be stuck with only dealer filters.
