Default NEED ADVICE!!! 07 Raptor 350

I have a 07 Raptor 350, when i push the button to start it I get a buzzing from the solenoid. i have read other posts and have tried what ive been told.
I bought a new solenoid and starter motor and i still get the same noise.

1- i crossed the solenoid over- motor spins but does not start

2-ive tried running the negative from my car to the battery- still nothing

3-skipped the solenoid and went from the battery to the starter- still nothing

4- a friend pulled me down street with truck, i dumped the clutch- it started but would not rev up when i push throttle, if i changed gears it would cut off

5- checked all wiring and connections to make sure serviceable and connected correctly and used wire brush to clean when i connected

6- i checked inside where the starter motor connects to flywheel- all the teeth and gears appear to be working properly.

I am new at doing this atv mechanic stuff and i am trying to learn for myself. i bought it as a project for my son and i to work on. it was running great when i bought it. i was riding wheelies in the lawn, i pulled back too hard one time and dragged it on the rear bar, i was never able to get it to start since then. i the began to pull it apart to sandblast the frame and repaint. to my knowledge and the manuals ive gone through ive done everything right... I think. please help me out with any knowledge or sites that i can refer to. Id take it to the bike shop if its last resort, but like i said im trying to learn for myself. Thank you all for your help.

It sounds to me like you have more than 1 problem. I would guess your battery could be low on charge or there is a loose connection. You say you connected the negative from your car battery but you need to connect the negative and positive and then try it.

Then the revving problem would be another issue. I would blame the carb 1st, maybe it stuck the floats up when you 12 o'clocked it. If that is the case, sometimes you can tap on the float bowl to get them to unstick.

If you have a volt meter, try testing to see what the battery voltage is on the old battery. If the battery voltage reads good then you'll need to load test it to make sure it can handle a load on the battery. You can do this one of 2 ways. Either use a load tester or if you don't have one, connect the battery to the quad, put your volt meter leads on the terminals and try to start the quad. The voltage shouldn't drop more than one volt. Since you've said you ordered a new battery this won't be an issue, however, if the old battery is still good, it would be a good idea to keep it handy just in case.

Ok, i replaced the battery last night and its a good thing becasuse the old one did turn out to be bad. On that note it wasnt a battery problem because i still get the same buzzing sound from the solenoid. Also when i cross over the solenoid, it sparks but does not buzz and i can hear the starting motor. i will check into getting a volt meter today and see what i can do. i really do appreciate the help and time you have taken to give me knowledge, much appreciated.

The buzzing when you hit the start button almost confirms that you have some voltage to the coil on the solenoid (the 2 small wires), but a meter will prove if you have the correct voltage there when you hit the start button. Usually if you have a solid 12 volts to the solenoid, it will click, but not buzz. Buzzing could be an indication that there is less than enough voltage there to activate the solenoid.

Then you need 12 volts DC + (positive) on the large wire that runs to the + side of the battery. Then you need 12 volts DC + on the large wire that runs down to the starter motor when you hit the starter button. If you have 12 volts DC to the coil when you hit the start button and 12 volts + from the battery, but no voltage on the starter wire when you hit the start button, then the start solenoid is defective.

Of course the negative wire needs to have a good connection from the negative battery terminal down to the engine. Also you may not have exactly 12 volts to everything, it could be plus or minus 10% from 12, so 10.8 - 13.2 volts should make it work, usually it will be higher, a lower voltage usually indicates a problem.
