Default youth certification for atv

Hi, I am brand new to atvs so please excuse me if this is a dumb question. My son and I have spent the last few months finding used 4 wheelers to start riding at a national forest near us. We finally got everything we needed to get there including two atvs and a trailer to get there. When we got there this morning we were told that since my son was only 8 years old he needed a certification to ride in the wambaw cycle trails which is part of the francis marion national park.
Do you know of what this certification is that the park ranger was talking about and how do I get him the cert. THANKS FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN OFFER

Hi dreamliner. What state is this in? Might help some of the local people to know where the forest is. A lot of states run youth safety, or generic ATV safety classes. Usually this is done through the Fisheries and Wildlife agency in your state. Hope this helps a little.

you can also contact your local atv dealers, no matter the brand, and they should also have information on when/where the atv safety courses are offered. i know one of our local dealerships has a local instructor who is endorsed by yamaha, who provides the training, and then you take either a 4 hr or 8 hr course which is basically common sense with some very helpful information/tips. OR, get on yamaha's, honda's, polaris' websites and see if there are any links for classes. OR better yet, use this website to find classes.
