Default Ranger problems

2002 500 Ranger.Very erratic starting.Starts 5 or 6times then starts and blows carb off boot. Compression good, leakdown test good,nu plug, cdi, coil, pickup coil, flywheel key.cleaned carb. Timming dead on. When it starts, idles perfect, but when revved up it has a miss. Appreciate any help. Thanks

You replaced the pickup(pulse) coil, but what readings did you get on the stator exciter coil itself? Red to Green and Blk/Red to Green.

The main stator itself. Pick up (pulse coil) white to red/white should read around 97 ohms resistance, but you've eliminated that by replacing it. The stator itself has a charge coil and an exciter section that if shorting out could be the problem. The red to green should be around 1.5 ohms resistance. The Blk/red wire to green wire should be around 446 ohms. These measurements are +or - 20%. I've had pick up coils show to be good, but had the stator itself out of range. These wires lead to the cdi.

Different year models the wiring colors change. Check resistance on the blk/red to red and see what you come up with. Just trying to eliminate the main stator as a problem.

Blk/red to red I get a reading of 20. Is this right?

No,should be around 446 ohms, but again you're wiring color is different than the manual I have. Try the blk/red to red/tan or even the tan and see if you get close to this resistance reading. If you do,then you can eliminate the stator and trouble shoot else where.

Ok, checked the red/blk to red/tan nothing, red/blk to tan nothing guess this means stator. Also ran it some, pulled carb and lot of gas fumes out the intake for 3 or 4 minutes. This is really brain teaser!! Thanks for the help.
