Default Polaris sportsman 500 starter

I recently purchased a starter for my polaris sportsman off amazon and it lasted about 2 months. Is their any good aftermarket company's or reasons the starter may of died so fast?

Here you can get a "standard" 1 year warranty starter or the Gold Series" warrantied for 2 years. Haven't heard any bad things about em. We used to get cheaper after market starters from one of our suppliers,Tucker Rocky and had no complaints or returns that I can remember on these either.Starters are like any thing else electrical, you can get one that wont hold up. Same thing on batteries. I don't know how many we had that wouldn't hold a charge straight out of the box and had em picked up.http://www.dbelectrical.com/c-1804-sportsman.aspx

Thanks for posting that link OPT. I tried but couldn't remember their name if my life depended on it.

Do you have your old OEM starter?
I was going to throw mine out but was told sticking dirty bushes are a common problem.
I took my starter apart and sure enough it had one stuck and dirty brush, I cleaned it up and its been good for 4 years now.
I wonder how many perfectly good starters have been tossed due to a sticky brush. LOL

We had stacks of old starters that we had rebuilt at a local alternator/electrical shop that included new brush kits and also turning the armature. We sold these for 90 bucks and stopped doing this when more than half came back.Started stocking after market starters for the same price. Some a starters you can save by just cleaning up or installing a rebuild kit for about 20 bucks, but we found some just too worn out to mess with. All depends if you have the time or desire to repair em and lot of people want it fixed now.
