96 xplorer 300 4x4 not charging
#1
i have a 96 xplorer 300 & quit charging. it will run in daytime but at night with lights on, they dim & quits running. ckecked and tightened connections at rectifier.put new rectifier on & still not charging. any body know how many a/c volts at idle from stator or ohm reading from coil. got a rectifier off ebay new but doesnt mean its good. thanks, mike.

First off is it charging around 14 volts back at the battery while at an idle or a little above? Plus is this a new battery or the old one and has it been load tested?

sorry, i didnt specify. it depends on what the batteries state of charge is. it was reading about 10.8-11.5 volts if i put lights on or push on brake it, voltage drops lower.battery load tested good with quality load tester. with battery disconnected, it runs at idle about 10 volts. any help would be appreciated.

fixed charging system today. checked for continuity at stator wires to front circuit board & there was none. removed flywheel & found a piece of debris or something(couldnt find any)hit off flywheel & broke coil winding on stator. repaired wire & charging 14.5 at idle.

Probably a piece from the exposed magnet on the flywheel.I'd still pull this flywheel and check it over carefully as I've found many that would had a piece of magnet sling off and trash a stator. Cheaper in the long run than having to replace a stator and also the flywheel at the same time when it self destructs. The epoxy holding the magnets gets weak along with the magnets cracking themselves. You dodged a major problem for the time being.
