electrical problems with explorer 400

electrical problems with explorer 400
I bought a 96 Polaris explorer 400 as is and it appears to not be getting spark, I have a multimeter and clueless where to even begin, I am a mechanic thow new to the volt/ohm testing on this atv there are so many electrical things and need help, so that im not spending money I don't have on expensive parts Im finding on ebay. how can I test the cdi, and any other electrical part using my multimeter ?
