Honda Reliability -( if you know what I mean)

"I have had my rancher since last summmer, there are 500 miles on it and 80.1 hours, I have had NO trouble, except some popped rivits from hitting trees, I have had that thing through hell and have no problems what so ever. BUY IT you will NOT be disappointed.
Is this reliability? 500 miles in 9 months?
Just my .02 cents

I agree, I think people are confusing initial quality of assembly with reliability. I personally don't consider something reliable unless it has a few thousand miles on it.
I hear all the time, how someone has 'zero' problems after 'much' riding, and their tires still look like new. I have neighbors with Hondas, and the full-time 4wd system will wear front tires bald somewhere between 3500 and 4000 miles, depending on use. (Keep in mind tire wear varies greatly from place to place and even person to person, I am just going by who I know.)
There is initial quality, and also long-term reliability, and there is a difference.

I guess you guys missed the fact that he has 80 hours & 500 miles. This is riding at 6 mph this tells me either he is riding slow technical stuff or is just a slow ridier. Anyone can get 1800-2000 miles if they ride on logging roads & have low hours. So which is more reliable 500 miles of slow riding or 1800 miles of logging roads? There is no right answer.
There is a husband & wife in our club who own a couple Polaris Sportsmans, they ride 5-6 times a year. So theorectically these quads will last a lifetime since they see very little use. Right!
This same couple does ride their Banshee's on the sand 15-20 times a year.
Guess you guys just are bored over here.

I love Polaris as much as the rest of you. And I know some of you see Honda as the "enemy". So the guy hasn't riden 8000 miles at a constant speed of 50 mph through mud or other hard core terrain. But do any of you seriously doubt the reliability of Honda?

I mainly ride with the same thirty people at one time or another. Besides a stray Kawasaki or Suzuki in the group, the main quads are Honda and Polaris. I easily see twice the problems with the Hondas than the Polaris. This goes for newer quads, as well as the older ones. I have no idea where Honda aquired its "bulletproof" nickname. I have nothing against them, and I am glad to hook them up, and tow them out of the woods.

Me too I owned a brand new Honda and it was my worst ATV to date, I too have no idea how they got there legendary status.I have 183 hours on my Sportsman. Average of 9.5 mph. I personally have had better luck with Polaris than Yamaha or Honda. I don't doubt they make a decent quad, do i think Honda is allot better than the others no. I know better.
