Default Need new Tire Advice for sand/mud

I have a Suzuki Eiger, auto 4x4, 400. I ride in Florida, mostly sand trails with some mud holes, some very loose sand, very little forest trails. 20mph and below, I rarely hit 30mph for a few seconds.
I am keeping the stock rims, 25x10-12 & 25x8-12 tire sizes.
I have read I should be concerned about weight with only a 400 motor.
I don’t want to lose any ground clearance on a tire that runs short.
I have read some good results of the Mud lite and Dirt Devil in sand.
I have been considering (rear tire weights shown):
STI Outback 20.7
ITP Mud lite 19.3
Artrax MDX 22.5
GBC Dirt Devil 20
Super Grip Super Light 19
Carlisle Black Rock 20.3

And just to mix things up I was also considering going to a 26"

Super Grip Super Light 22 Expensive
Durro Buffalo 21.7 11" wide
ITP Mud Lite 23.5
STI Outback 25.3
Carlisle Black Rock 23.3 11" wide

Your thoughts Please...

I had the same problem with my 350 Grizzly . I got Maxxis Zilla 26"x11 (23.3lbs) rears and 26"X9 (19.6lbs) fronts, there 6ply with aggressive 1.19" Lugs.
Lightest 6ply tire with a over 1" tall lug you can buy.

They weight the same as smaller and narrower 25"X10 (23.1lbs) and 25x8" (19.7lbs) XL and they only have a 1" lug.(Not talking the tamer "AT" Mudlites)

Look it up. Maxxis Zilla Zilla specs

ITP Mud Lite Mudlite. specs

You have to go to 26" with Zillas to get the tall 1.19" lugs. the 25 have only 0.75" lugs
You have to get the (XL) for a taller 1" mud lugs with mudlites but they are offered in 25".
Mudlite (AT) have a shorter 0.75" lug.

But since they cost and weigh the same why not get taller and wider 26" Zillas. with more traction and more ground clearance.

My little 350 did not lose much power or speed loss from its stock 25" tires but the Machine has a nicer beefy look for sure.

Zillas

I have Zillas on my Ozark and they dig too much in the sand. The ITP's are heavy when you get to 26". I'm leaning towards the Duro Buffalo, 26x8x12 19.4 lbs and 26x11x12 21.7 lbs. The tread depth is lower at 21/32 and 30/32 but I think that will be fine as the 25 inch tires are typicaly 3/4" tread.

What size Zillas did you buy?

Like I said unless they are 26" you do not get the wider 11" and 9" width with the taller 1.19" lug.

25" Zillas are only 10 and 8 wide with a much shorter 0.75" lug, they only share the same name but are not the same tire or performance.

Just like the same in name Mudlite AT and Mudlite XL are not close in traction performance.
A Mudlite AT is a Mudlite XL that's 30% worn out.

A 25x10 Zilla with a 0.75" lug is not going to behave like a Zilla 26x11 with a 1.19" lug.

Wider is more flotation.
I think that will be fine as the 25 inch tires are typicaly 3/4" tread
Don,t worry tall mud lugs will be 3/4" after you put a few thousand miles on them. LOL

The Zillas on the Ozark are 22 inch. They are a great tire for mud and hard pack trails, just in loose sand they dig a lot. We have a lot of loose sand in Florida!

I don't know how much impact heavier tires will have, but just adding 4 tire weights for 26 inchers: Mud Lite XL 92.2 lbs., Super Grip Super Light 86 lbs., Duro Buffalo 82.2 lbs.
The Duro's have much smaller lugs.
These are the lightest sand/mud Trail tires in 26 inch I could find, all others are heavier.
So maybe I should get the 26" Super Grips ??? (good for mud/sand and light weight) I was comparing side by side, the super grips have the same tread as the Mud Lites, but the super grips have rim gaurd.

So maybe I should get the 26" Mud Lite XL's
The 26" XL get a taller 1/8" of a lug vs the 25" XL 1"and come in wide 12" rears or standard 10".
May help with your sand floatation to get 12" wide rears.
Do not get real concerned with weigh if all you do is slow 30mph trails.
The Eiger is a 376cc and has a low range if conditions get thick and heavy.

My 347cc Grizzly has no low range option yet goes ok with 26" Zillas even in the thick goo.

Well I ended up getting CST Ancla tires in the stock size. I could not pass up the sale I found on them. So far they have done great in sand and mud, just what I needed. They seam to be an upgrade over Mud lites? Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the update. It might help others decide what to get.
