i am new to this. i bought my bike 4 days ago and it worked fine.i plowed my driveway twice with no problem.yesterday it bogged out on me when i was ridding in the trails but started right back up and ran fine.i shut it off at home went out next day started right away.after running for 5 min or so i tried to drive away it bogged out and backfired now it wont start.i cleaned carb still wont start i played around a little more and it started and would idle fine as soon as you push the throttle it boggs out backfires and quits.and when you are cranking it over it spits out carb and will backfire out carb to.

Common complaint when exhaust cam lobe is worn down. I encountered this often at the shop on 500 cams until the 500 HO Sportsman came out in 2001.Plus many on the forum have had the same problem.Always replace the exhaust rocker arm along with the cam. Aftermarket cams and rocker arms are showing up on ebay now that are about $150 cheaper than oem.http://www.ebay.com/itm/POLARIS-SPORTSMAN-500-2X4-4X4-CAM-SHAFT-CAMSHAFT-EXHAUST-ROCKER-ARM-1995-2012-/251373518644?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3a87077f34&vxp=mtr Plus here's one members pics on his Scrambler 500 cam and what it was doing. http://forums.atvconnection.com/pola...d-cam-pic.html

If your cam lobe isn't fattened or worn, I'd recheck with a micrometer to see if the lobe height is the same as the intake lobes, plus check valve clearance. .006 intake and exhaust clearance. Tight valves can cause problems also. If you still have this problem, then could be a fuel related problem, carb, fuel pump, water contaminated fuel. If you still have problems after this process of elimination, then could be an electrical problem. This pdf manual addresses all that I've mentioned along with electrical tests on the stator, pulse coil, ign coil, by way of trouble shooting guides in each section.

i took the gas line off the side of the carb and gas will pour out when holding below the shut off but when i hold it above it will stop.then when holding it up and pushing the starter over it will squirt out maybe 1 time every 10 times turning over the engine.could my fuel pump be gone and will that couse my problem.

Turn the fuel valve to reserve and see if gas flow increases. If it does, the fuel valve is stopped up and needs replacement. Also check that the vacuum line from the pump to the carb is ok and the fuel filter to the carb isn't partially stopped up. If none of this helps could be dirt/trash in the pump and either needs cleaning or replacement. Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse

i rechecked the lobe it does look fine very little wear on it. as i was checking the valve i noticed the rocker arm is loose i can move it left and right and up and down.so i checked the other arms to and the move as well.my question is are the sappose to move cause if the are it dont make sense if you ajust the valve hight the arm will move changing the hight you have.

Rocker arms are gonna move a little side to side and up and down especially at tdc. Look at the manual link I listed and shows about adjusting valves if they need it. Both the intake and exhaust valves set at .006 clearance.
