02 trailboss milky dipstick and motor noise

Hi everyone I just purchased my first ATV a02 trail boss 325 my first question is about the white residue on the top of the dip stick some steaks in oil .I changed oil and it seems to be getting worse this ATV is not liquid cooled so ciuldent be coolant ..and the motor vis noise I've heard that polaris is like that and how often do these need valve adjusted and how much would it cost on estimate.. thanks everyone.. kc

I'd get some cheap oil and flush it a couple of times to get out whatever is in there. Might even put a little seafoam in there to help clean it out. If it's still getting milky, I would think it has a gasket or seal leak letting contaminants in. Valves aren't that hard to adjust yourself. A good service manual will get you through that.

I had a 2000 trail boss that took an absolute beating and kept going. It's not the fastest or the fanciest, but it was a good dependable ride.

Noticed that myself on several 325 and 330 engines. Oil would look foamy and have a small layer of milky substance at the top of the oil filler and on the dipstick.Didn't matter if it was Polaris oil or Mobil1,etc. Part of this I believe is excess gas if you have a worn needle and seat. If you just cleaned the carb and didn't install a carb kit, might be time to do it. Plus as Scooter said, may take a couple changes to get rid of it all because of length of oil cooler hoses and residue that still might be in the oil cooler. The two valves are easy to check, especially the exhaust valve cap being in the open. Really need to lift the back of the tank to get to the intake valve cap.Pull the recoil rope, watch as the intake rocker arm goes down and starts to come back up. Pull the 9/16" plug at the top of the recoil housing and shine a small flashlight in the hole.Stop when you see an inverted "T" on the flywheel and it lines up with the pointer on the inner recoil case. This is TDC and then you can check clearance. .006 intake and exhaust clearance. #7 is the recoil plug.http://www.cyclepartswarehouse.com/f...2002&fveh=5598

Add about 1/3 of a can to the crankcase before you change the oil. Ride it for about 10-15 minutes and then change the oil as you normally would.

I just flushed the 02 trail boss .I drained old oil refilled with 15-40 and 1/3 bottle of seafoam and let it run on mid idle for 10-15 min and while it was running it sounded a lot louder than usual sounds like piston slap or maybe valves..I don't know for sure I've done some research and everyone says polaris motors make all kinds of noise .I'm just waiting till tom to get new filter and then filling up with 0-40 mobile. .if I change filter does it take 2 full warts ? .and is this noise one of the common ones .thanks

Only takes 2 quarts with the filter. If the noise is louder because of the thicker oil used for flushing,I hope it's not the problem like I had on the early 2001 model 325 engines that ate up the plain lower rod bearings(item#14) and destroyed crank shafts. Another area is the lower crank sprocket noise when the slotted nut holding it backs off and grinds against the stator plate.(Items #10 and 11) Had that happen on a few 325 and 500 engines.Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse If you confirm it's an engine noise and not the clutch, tearing it down and inspecting it may save the crank as the crank journal can be turned and over size bearings can be installed along with a new rod. But if you go that far,new piston and rings also.
