Hi all, a friend of mine has a 2001 Yamaha Kodiak 400 four wheeler and it will not run. It has sat a couple of months and last year I went through and cleaned the carb. He went to start it and nothing so I came over and sprayed some carb and choke cleaner in it and it fired right up but then died... so i am thinking fuel filter so I checked for one and could not find one... I drained the gas out and put in fresh gas that was bought today with ethanol treatment and still will not fire... as soon as I spray carb and choke cleaner in it it fires right up. any help would be greatly appreciated! thank you

 

Sounds like the carb needs cleaning again. I would pull the bowl off, remove the 2 jets and clean them, and clean the float needle.

 

Until I get it figured out, I usually pull the fuel line off from the tank and use a jug as a fuel reservoir. I have had this happen to where I could not figure it out. Take it apart, check it out, put it back, try it. Take it apart, check it out, put it back, try it. Take it apart... you get it. And then after 2-3 times, it works. I can't explain it but that has been my experience.

 

Is it getting fuel from the tank? If not the filter on the petcock could be stopped up.

 

It could also possibly be the gas cap vent. Maybe try a new cap

 

This is my first thought too. I had this issue on my Kodiak.
