Default 2005 Sportsman 800

My 800 has started to shut down as I am riding. It usually starts back after 10 seconds. But it loses all power, no dash, no lights, no fan, no anything. Can anyone help????

It varies, sometimes it goes for thirty minutes sometimes 30 seconds.

OPT would be the one to tell you how to test that sucker before you go throwing parts at it. testing things will obviously save you money....and heartburn.

If you're not throwing any codes, check the fuse block wiring to see if you have a wire pulling out/touching another wire from the base of the block. Just remove the block and you should be able to tell.Fuses are for the fan, efi, chassis power and accessory power. This was one of the most common causes we found when you lost complete power. You can also swap the two relays by the ecu(both are the same) one controls the fan the other is power to efi, injectors etc. If it runs ok and the fan wont kick on then it's a bad relay. Even an ignition switch short,a wiring short under the pod where all the stress is on the harness can cause problems.Plus check the crank sensor wiring that runs under the throttle body to the ecu. I've had some rub a small bare spot that would touch the engine case and ground out intermittently. Plus make sure it's tied up away from any contact with the engine.Doesn't sound like a tps or tbap sensor harness short, but check these harnesses for any bare or soft wires that could be damaged internally.

I know it's been awhile, but I did solve the above problem. The relays were getting hot I guess. Replaced them, and it ran like a champ. Now after several months of leaving all of the 500's, 600's, and 700's in the dust and mud holes I'm starting to blow fuses. When I turn the key to the "ON" position the lights, fuel pump, and my fan(which has been wired to come on when the key is turned to on) comes on, but as soon as I turn the key to crank it the fuse blows. When looking at the quad from the front it's the one all the way to the right, or the fuse on the master cylinders side. Any thoughts????

Check underneath on the fuse block wiring as it's one of the most common problems areas on shorts, pins pulling back, not making contact also. The far left relay is for the fan,far right one is the main power relay that receives it's power from the ecu module.Probably a wire short between the ecu module to the power relay or fuse block itself could be the culprit.

Will check it out today. I'm not sure about the recall, I never got correspondence about it.
