Is the EBS system something that is strictly a four stroke thing? If not, is it something that can be put on after you go out the door with your machine? AND.....If so, has anyone put it on their 400?

yea chris I only know that you can have it installed after market,have 425 mag am thinking about putting it on.Tried to get back to you on luv 500 but seems to be missing,thanks for good words appreciate that.Love to 4 wheel an have fun,hope you enjoy that 400 as much as I have my machines.Is real hard sport not to enjoy.

 

EBS clutches are available from any Polaris dealer for either 400 or 500.

i installed the EBS system on my 1996 400 EXP about18 months ago and in would not be without it. use low range going down hill and you will be impressed it acts just like a std transmission on hold back

 

I just installed an EBS kit on a EXPLORER 400 it worked well and was not to difficult to put on not quiet the same effect as on a 4 stroke but it really makes a diffrence . I am sure it will save this guy a lot of brake replacements as he likes to ride fast and stop quick. The part number for the 400 EBS kit is 2200952. It contains a new belt ,Helix and drive clutch. The old setup was returned for a credit against the new one. (sorry I didn,t ask how much the credit was or how much it cost I will ask next time I see the guy)Also the price has been lowered on the EBS kits this year , I understand about 25%.Hope this helps I know I,m late with this post. <IMG SRC="http://forums.atvconnection.com/ubb/redface.gif">

I can tell you for a fact, it is worthless on a 1998 250 trail boss. I had this installed in my quad. It would start to slow down, but as ground speed picked up the EBS allowed it to free-wheel. I don't believe there is enough compression or motor CC's to make it do its thing proper.

 

Muddn, it's because the Trail Boss only has a high range. Your dealer should have told you this before you bought it, I think I read at a dealer or on the Polaris page that it's not reccamended for machines without a low range.

The EBS effect in high range is similar to a geared machine in a high gear. It slows down gradualy, and you don't need the brakes on normal trails, but on hills or slopes, and at speed you need brakes. In low range it is like a geared machine in low gear. Down hills, or slowing down, it has a lot of effect and the brakes are rarely used except on steep down hills, just like a geared machine.
