Polaris Sportsman Slow throttle response bogs
#1
My polaris sportsman bogs when you give it gas. Guy came down and said it's supposed to punch right down the street and he had to give it full throttle before it would go. I have cleaned the carb and checked the carb boot for cracks nothing. The airbox lid is all messed up but i ducked taped it because I believe it was sucking air but still no change. I don't know what else it could be. It's not popping or backfiring. He said when you snap the throttle from nothing to full throttle it should just rev and not bog. Also he said that when you burry the throttle it shouldn't bog. It's almost as though the throttle response is not there. Also when I push the throttle from nothing to wot it doesn't do anything for a second or two then It starts to rev

Could be a clutch or belt problem if you've eliminated the carb and air box along with a split intake manifold. Most intakes would split under the clamp where it's hard to notice. One major problem if you can't track it down is the old ignition problem with the Ducati system if it hasn't been updated.Search this forums or do a google search on 600 and 700 ignition problems and you'll see the whole system up grades to a Kokusan assy. Around $450-$500 for the complete assy. Here's the pdf kit instructions and parts.http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...74649129,d.eXY
Plus here's a video on installation. 2002 to early 2004 600 and 700 carb models were affected.

Mine is a 500 HO so I don't think it affects it but how would I check the ignition system. And could the fuel pump be the problem to? And also the air filter. Sounds like the bogging is comming from the air box area. Like could the fuel pump not pumping enough fuel fast enough?

Sorry! had 700 on the brain. You can check out this breakdown on the Bst40 carb that's used on a Ktm,but similar to yours on the 03 500. Float height is critical and shows how to measure and adjust at the end of the article. The BST-40 Bible - ADVrider If you can't track it down to a carb problem,I'd still check into the clutches.Plus on the fuel pump just remove the fuel line from the carb and crank the engine over. Should be a pulsing stream of fuel if fuel pump is ok.

It seems like it has a flat spot somewhere. It doesn't backfire or anything but maybe it's in the carb? Like the jet needle position?

Then check the air filter you mentioned previously,clean/replace if needed, plus look over this carb break down especially items#4-7. if you're missing the "ring" at the end of the spring, may have something to do with it.Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse
