Finally! - Stumped no more
#1
Well, I was stumped because after replacing the top end on my Scrambler it would not do anything other than idle. As soon as I gave it any gas it just seemed to bog and I was unable to rev it at all. Last nite out of the clear blue, after I had spent all day trying to figure out what was wrong, my 14 year old son says, dad I think I might know whats wrong. He said, did you notice that the reverse light is on when you start your quad? Because the plastic is off the dash lights are just hanging down to the side so I hadn't payed any attention to the dash lights. He said maybe it thinks the quad is in reverse and it won't let you rev it up unless you hit the override button. He then said that back in November when I tore the engine down, he saw a wire that wasn't connected up on the front wiring connection board so he plugged it in where he saw an open pin. He said he remembered what wire it was, so he pulled it off and I plugged it into the right connection and wouldn't you know it that was the problem. The reverse light went out and the neutral light came on and the old 400 roared to life. I had decided that I was going to have to tear the engine back down because I must have done something wrong and all the time it was that wire my son had reconnected for me months ago.
The 400 sounds real healthy so I can't wait to find out what the porting & headwork have done for the beast. I'm ready to ride.
