400 HO suddenly started stalling at idle
#1
I have an 08 400 HO that has been a great machine. On our last outing we had stopped to let some other riders by and the machine just died. We tried to restart it and it wouldn't fire. We pulled the air cleaner and it was clean, used the choke which didn't help and tried everything to get it started but nothing worked. Finally I just cranked it over and pumped the throttle at the same time and finally it started spitting and sputtering and then ran fine. It was fine for a couple hours and then did the exact same thing again. It is hard to start now at all times. I got it home and pulled the plug and it is wet with gas. I put in a new plug and turned it over and it didn't start so I pulled the plug again and it was wet with fuel. It is getting spark but maybe it's being flooded out by the carb? Think the floats may be stuck? Does anyone have a carb rebuild instructions for this machine?

Any time you take a carb apart best to just go ahead and install a kit. Several kits for the 400 on ebay.http://www.ebay.com/itm/CARB-REBUILD-REPAIR-KIT-POLARIS-SPORTSMAN-400-450-2006-2007-2008-2009-/230483730429?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item35a9e69ffd&vxp=mtr Plus several videos on cv carbs that can help with the basics.

If its dies on a idle adjust your ETC switch here's a video on it. (click on top bar.) http://www.ehow.com/video_4468404_polaris-atv-thumb-throttle-maintenance.htmlMay have to sit through a ad vid first. If those contact touch you will have no spark.
