well im back hunting is over and im going back onto the 94 polaris 400L two stroke....i ordered a new carb but im not sure its the one that fits my unit...i called and they said i may have to change the jets...the part number is one lower than my carb...mine ends with 10 an this is 09....can you give me some thoughts on what should be done if i slap it on and it dont run perfect? couldnt pass it up...100 dollars for a brand new carb.

put the new carb on...runs the same...you crank the idle screw in and it will run a min...wont rev...wont do much. same as day i got it...ya think i should go back to the beginning? start all over?????

If I remember correctly,you installed a new stator,plus crank seals also?? I'd still do a leak down test even if compression is good if you're certain the carb is good to go.. If it holds 7 psi with no drop,then you're going to have to check elsewhere as to what's the problem.

 

no...no stator...i did the cdi that you cked on line that fits my unit and it didnt work at all....had no spark...so i put the old one back on....i did do the seals on the crank....like you said the one on the clutch side goes...oh yeah it was...i did them both, one on stator side and one on clutch...is it possible someone put the wrong stator flywheel unit on it? i dont know im just grasping at straws...i did a bore job...new pistol and rings...new seals in the lower...tried a new cdi but that didnt work and then i went hunting...now i slapped a new carb on it cause it was brand new for 100 bucks and mine was all green inside,,,even after it was cleaned..

 

Check that your cdi shows either #3084767 or the newer #3085087.Cdi part numbers should be printed on the side or back.. Same stators and flywheels were used on a lot of different models.

Check resistance on the pick up coil white to white/red that lead into the cdi. Should show around 97 ohms. Plus not sure on the 400,but check that the pick up coil face to the raised section on the flywheel tab is no more than .040 clearance with a feeler gauge. This was one of the first models to change from the exciter coil inside the flywheel to the external pick up coil same as the 4 strokes had.

 

i did the ohms ck to the stator...white and red/white says 92 ohms....im gonna have to tear it all down to do a presure ck on the lower...i tested from the plug in to the stator going from the cdi...going down... you dont test it plugged in do you?????

 

No,connectors to the cdi are removed for individual resistance checking on the pick up coil and stator wiring.
