Default New here and looking for advise

Hey guys, I'm looking at a 2000 Polaris Xplorer 400 for sale. I'm new to buying machines. The guy says it had a new top end last year. I just honestly don't know if these are a good machine or not. Thanks for any help in advance!!

Good machines until repairs are needed. Too many parts in the engine even compared to a lot of 4 strokes. I loved the power they had,but imo I'd look at a good condition 4 stroke.

I agree, those 2 strokes make great power but are just not as reliable as a 4 stroke. I'd look at an older Sportsman 500 instead, that would be a much better choice. I dont know how much that 400 explorer was that you were looking at since its obviously been sold as the posting has been removed. You should be able to find an older Sportsman 500 in good shape for $2000-$2500. They're one of the better bargains in older 4x4 utility machines but still make good power and that 500 engine is one of the most reliable Polaris has ever built.
