Hey I hear about that PEP steering dampener for the ds650 i was wondering how people like it and if it is worth the 150.00. I"m not sure if it was a PEP steering dampener or a Steering STABALIZER, i was wondering the differnce. I just want to get ride (or take some away) of the JERKING in the REALLY rough terrain. Sometimes it JERKS a bit and i dont like it. So could somone tell me the differnce between the 2 and which one works better. I will be racing Harescramble series this season and i need a few things..

Steering Stabilizer / Steering Damper = same thing. I have the PEP - they are regarded as one of the best if not the best suspension manufacturer, plus their damper is cheaper and comes with directions. (Most others cost more and have no directions!) The steering damper will slow down the speed at which the handlebars jerk when you hit a bump with only one tire, which effectively reduces the bumps. I feel it's one of the more important items to have on an ATV and it was the first modification I bought for my DS650.

Where is the best place to get the Pep stabalizer? With that and some good sand tires on the front it should really help the jerking on the front going accross the sand ruts.

I ordered (backordered) the Graydon Proline steering dampener for my 2001 DS650. Has anybody put one of these on and were the instructions provided? I was told they were a little more expensive $180) but worked better? Anybody know?

The damper helps in the sand, tightening the front suspension just a little helps even more. I made that one change on my ATV and it made ALL the difference. Try that before anything else. (Much cheaper!)

Hard to say if it really cuts down on vibration, I rode my DS for the first 4 hours without the damper in one of the most rocky places I've been. I think it'll help more anytime the handle bars would be moved quickly, it wont really affect slow movements. I plan to add some foam grips (cheap but I like them - great for guys with XXL hands) on my ATV, those might help with vibration as well, though I just like them for the size.

It's one of the best things you can add to your DS (and other quads too). No matter where you ride you'll feel the diference.
I usually ride on fast trails (baja type) where the steering damper feels like a miracle. You can go faster and more stable.
